Help with Acne Vulgaris

Acne Vulgaris (AV) is a disease afflicting mostly adolescents and young adults, often resulting in disfiguring facial scarring that carries into adulthood.

Based off of a case study performed by Judith Hellman at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York, published 12/8/2015, Fractional Radio Frequency treatments (FRF) have been proven to be a safe and effective treatment for AV and acne related scars. Treatment with FRF led to significant improvement in acne scarring and skin biopsies after FRF treatment showed that scar thickness diminished in depth.

Significant resolution of AV lesions were also evident with RF treatments. RF has been proven to improve AV by sebum (an oily secretion of the sebaceous glands) suppression. So these results show that FRF can be used for simultaneous treatment of both active acne and previous scarring.

The treatment itself involves minimal discomfort, and the overall patient experience is positive. Some patients experience slight red needle marks and/or sunburn like redness in the treated area for up to 48hours.

This treatment has significant advantages due to being minimally invasive and has very low downtime and can be used on all skin types without adverse effects. This is significant due to adult acne and scarring being more prevalent in darker skin types. In addition, many patients have noticed some skin tightening, which is an added benefit that is well received among older patients.
